About the Author:

In 1986, Kathy Gallagher helped her husband Steve found Pure Life Ministries, a ministry for men struggling with habitual sexual sin. Kathy soon found herself spending countless hours ministering to the hurting wives of these men, pointing them to Jesus and giving them hope through the very answers that worked for her. Each year hundreds of wives receive counseling through the counseling program she initiated for them years ago. Today, she administrates and produces video clips for the Eternal Weight website.

    After listening to this message and knowing that the mystery of iniquity continues to increase in both the church and the world according to Thessalonians, I wonder how many Christians are still willing to follow authority to the degree that Jesus requires us to do in the order of the church. I see evidence all around me which points to the fact that the type of obedience we are asked to walk in by God is not being accepted nor embraced by the church as a whole although I do see pockets of it. The all pervasive attitude of what`s in it for me really has taken over the western church as a whole it seems.I love what Steve said in that we should never be the ones interviewing Jesus; but instead we should feel absolutely priveledged that Jesus would interview us and allow us a chance to be a part of His future plans for creation. This requires great sacrifice and suffering in which we must willingly choose to go through trusting that God will meet us every step of the way in joy and long suffering.

    I have had the old hymn Stand Up Stand Up For Jesus in my heart for weeks now and after listening to Pastor Steve I can peacefully resolve why the Lord had this hymn in my heart. Pastor Steve asks the question are we willing to fight? How often do we as believers only want to fight in a battle against obvious sin, but avoid the battle with the flesh due to the conflict we must face. As believers The Commander and Chief leads us to attention to fight against our own flesh which is a battle in where we simply can not trust in ourselves one single bit. We don’t have it in and of ourselves! So as believers we must expect there will be conflict. The battle at hand is time sensitive. We must not wait another day to crucify our fears of conflict, and stand up, bow our heads and thank Jesus that He would even call us to fight for Him. What an honour and privilege. Here is stanza two and three from this powerful hymn that now makes perfect sense to me after hearing this heart strengthening message by Pastor Steve.

    Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus, Ye soldiers of the cross
    Forth to the mighty conflict, In His glorious day:
    “Ye that are men” now serve Him Against Un-numbered foes
    Let courage rise with danger, And strength to strength oppose.

    Stand Up Stand Up For Jesus, The trumpet call obey;
    The arm of flesh will fail you, Ye dare not trust your own:
    Put on the gospel armor, Each piece put on with prayer;
    Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there
