An Eternal House of Wisdom

Eternal House WisdomEvery human being is in the process of building a spiritual house to take into eternity. The quality of that house will be determined by how well the person has followed through with the four steps involved in a building project. View video or listen to audio.

In 1986, Kathy Gallagher helped her husband Steve found Pure Life Ministries, a ministry for men struggling with habitual sexual sin. Kathy soon found herself spending countless hours ministering to the hurting wives of these men, pointing them to Jesus and giving them hope through the very answers that worked for her. Each year hundreds of wives receive counseling through the counseling program she initiated for them years ago. Today, she administrates and produces video clips for the Eternal Weight website.

The part of this message that really spoke to my heart was about how I fall into control so easily and I give myself to the Lord in one moment and ask Him to lead me, and then as Steve said there is a natural tendency to try and take back my life from Him and lead myself in the next moment. I guess this is part of the battle between the flesh and the Spirit. I really want to see that in the end of my life it was God who built my house, and not myself. I know that in the process of building an eternal house of wisdom in my life, God has had to tear down things in my life that were not so eternal and not so good for me and replace it with His wisdom and understanding. This seems to be a constant thing throughout my life in which God has to come and reprove me and deal with me and break down the things in my life that are not eternally good for me. It was good that Steve also addressed the fact if we continue to repent and try to walk the straight and narrow path, then maybe God won’t have to chasten us so much. I like how he said that he doesn’t want to being getting heavily chastised all of time, and instead he just needs to make the adjustment in his life before that happens. I will be tucking that away in my heart to practice it myself. Thank you so much for bringing this truth forth about our eternity and how we are learning to walk in eternity now.

During my devotional time this morning God impressed upon me to post this scripture in 1 Corinthians 2:10-14 about discerning the wisdom of this world vs. the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. So many times we can build ourselves up in the wisdom of this world and mistake it for God building us up in His wisdom. I guess it takes discernment by the Holy Spirit to tell the difference.

“But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
    (1 Corinthians 2:10-14)

It seems to be that the more we have built ourselves up in the wisdom of this world, the more it takes God to knock us down and get to the real thing which only comes by the Spirit to the spiritual man. The natural man or carnal man has no way to understand this path. I like how Paul explains this better in 1 Corinthians 1:18-21 and 26-29:

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
    (1 Corinthians 1:18-21)

“For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.”
    (1 Corinthians 1:26-29)
